MADCROW (Marine Data Crowdsourcing) is a marine technology research and development project co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The oceans and the seas cover 70% of our planet, and therefore they heavily shape the global climate and economy. But it must be said that the seas remain largely un-explored. Surveying the seas is a slow and very expensive activity, that remains generally focused to delve specific issues. The available data are often outdated and fragmented, since logistically and economically it would be very difficult to survey systematically large areas.

On the contrary, to evaluate the dynamics of ecosystems it would be necessary to have large quantities of real-time data that would be acquired within a new vision.

MadCrow is based on a novel paradigm, where the idea of crowdsourcing is built upon an infrastructure that organizes acquisition, integration and dissemination of marine data.

The activities of the project are linked to the priorities of the Programma Operativo Regionale, within its target «Investments towards a growth in employment» 2014-2020 Axis 1 – “To strengthen research and development growth”, Activity 1.3 – “To support R&D collaborative activities for the development of new sustainable technologies, new products and services”.
