MADCROW (Marine Data Crowdsourcing)

MadCrow (Marine data Crowdsourcing) is a marine technology research and development project co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The activities of the project are linked to the priorities of the Programma Operativo Regionale, within it target «Investments towards a growth in employment» 2014-2020 Axis 1 – “To strengthen research and development growth”, Activity 1.3 – “To support R&D collaborative activities for the development of new sustainable technologies, new products and services”.

The aim of MadCrow is to create an innovative technological infrastructure for the acquisition, integration and dissemination of data on the marine ecosystem of the Gulf of Trieste.

MadCrow is based on a novel paradigm based on the participation of the layman, Citizen Scientists, of public and private institutions and everyone who will provide access to their ships.

The acquisition will be performed through multiparametric black box sensors (Temperature, Salinity, pH and Oxygen, etc.) installed on acquisition platforms. These data will be transmitted onshore, stored, processed and integrated with other information sources in order to provide end-used with a clear picture of the status of the marine environment.

Information generated by MadCrow will become a very important tool for scientific outreach and for public awareness.
